Author:
Jonathan Lim
October 1, 2026

Quick answer: CNY 2027 falls on Saturday 6 February, with Monday 8 February as the observed holiday, so most offices return on Tuesday 9 February. That week is the busiest for office lion dances. Book 3–6 months ahead. A simple office blessing with one lion and a Cai Shen (God of Fortune) starts at $488; a full show with lions, a dragon and high pole starts at $3,288.

This guide is the planning hub for company CNY celebrations. It links to detailed guides for each type of performance.

CNY 2027 key dates for companies

Step 1: Decide what the event is for

  • Blessing the workplace: traditional lions, cai qing, a walk past every desk. Usually mid-morning on a working day.
  • Celebrating with staff: add a Cai Shen for photos and lucky giveaways, or office games (48 CNY game ideas).
  • Hosting clients or a big dinner: an evening show with LED lions, a dragon or high pole as the centrepiece.

Restaurant lunch 2 lions at the entrance, short blessing inside
Hotel ballroom dinner LED lions or LED dragon
Large hall or atrium Dragon, big flag, high pole

Step 4: Build the run-of-show

Office blessing (30 minutes, mid-morning)

  1. Staff gather at reception; drums start.
  2. Lions enter and bow to management.
  3. Cai qing at reception (lettuce, 12 mandarin oranges, 2 ang bao on a red plate).
  4. Blessing walk: 2 oranges and an ang bao on each desk, a calculator on the director's desk.
  5. Scroll unrolled, group photo with the lions and Cai Shen.

Annual dinner (evening)

  1. Guests seated; emcee explains the meaning in two sentences.
  2. Lights dim; LED lions or dragon enter (10–15 minutes).
  3. Lights up; CEO's welcome speech.
  4. Dinner, then Cai Shen visits tables for photos.

By default, the client prepares the cai qing items; we can supply them for an add-on fee. See what to prepare.
